Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy Tapped to Lead New Department of Government Efficiency

President-elect Donald Trump announced the establishment of a new federal initiative, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), appointing billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk and biotech executive Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the effort.

In a statement released Tuesday, Trump said, “Together, these two remarkable Americans will spearhead efforts to dismantle bureaucracy, slash unnecessary regulations, reduce wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies—all critical components of the ‘Save America’ movement.”

Goals of the Department of Government Efficiency

The DOGE will partner with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to drive large-scale structural reforms aimed at increasing federal efficiency while enhancing the quality of life for Americans.

“This initiative will create an entrepreneurial approach to government never seen before,” Trump explained, adding that the department will provide advice and guidance to streamline federal operations.

Key Figures in Leadership

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, vowed to address inefficiencies within the government system. “We will send shockwaves through the system and hold accountable anyone responsible for government waste,” Musk stated.

Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate and entrepreneur, is known for advocating the elimination of certain federal agencies to curb government spending. During his campaign, he proposed closing the Department of Education and redirecting funds to local communities, as well as shuttering the FBI and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Following his appointment, Ramaswamy announced he would withdraw his name from consideration for the Senate seat vacated by Vice President-elect JD Vance.

Uncertainties Ahead

While the DOGE has been described as a pivotal part of Trump’s administration, specifics about its structure, staffing, and funding remain unclear. However, its establishment signals a significant push toward streamlining federal operations and reducing bureaucracy under the incoming administration.

Trump’s announcement positions the department as a cornerstone of his administration’s broader agenda to reshape the federal government and bolster efficiency. Further details are expected in the coming weeks as Musk and Ramaswamy begin their roles in leading this ambitious reform effort.
