Biden Vows Transparency in Investigation into Deadly New Orleans Attack

President Joe Biden condemned the recent terrorist attack in New Orleans that claimed the lives of 15 people and injured many more, calling it “despicable.” Speaking from Camp David on Wednesday, Biden expressed his condolences and pledged the nation’s support to the grieving city.

“I want you to know I grieve with you. Our nation grieves with you. We’re going to stand with you as you mourn and as you heal in the weeks to come,” Biden stated.

The attack, which occurred just hours into the new year, involved a suspect who drove a truck adorned with an ISIS flag through a crowd. The individual, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen and Army veteran, was fatally shot by police following a gunfight. The FBI later revealed that the suspect had posted videos on social media prior to the attack, expressing a desire to kill and claiming inspiration from ISIS.

Biden assured the public that the investigation is ongoing and urged patience, promising to keep the country updated on developments. He emphasized the importance of refraining from jumping to conclusions while law enforcement continues their work.

“While this person committed a terrible assault on the city, the spirit of New Orleans will never be defeated. It will always shine forth,” Biden remarked, recognizing the city’s cultural significance.

In addition to the New Orleans tragedy, Biden briefly addressed a separate explosion in Las Vegas involving a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel, which is under investigation for potential terrorist links. There was no confirmed connection between the two incidents at the time of the report.

As security efforts ramp up in the wake of the attack, the Sugar Bowl college football game scheduled for New Year’s Day in New Orleans was postponed to allow for additional safety measures. The game will now take place Thursday at 4 p.m. ET in the Caesars Superdome.

Biden, in coordination with top law enforcement and homeland security officials, has directed resources to swiftly investigate the events, ensuring no further threat remains.
