Derby to Celebrate St George’s Day with Knights and Dragons

Derby is set to host a vibrant celebration of English culture in honor of St George’s Day, featuring an array of family-friendly activities across the city center.

The free festivities will take place on Saturday, ahead of the patron saint’s official day on Tuesday, offering a dynamic program designed to showcase English heritage and traditions in all their charm and eccentricity.

Events are scheduled to run from 12:00 to 14:00 BST at St Peter’s Cross and the Market Place. Visitors can immerse themselves in the medieval spirit by training as knights, playing traditional games, participating in arts and crafts workshops, and enjoying puppet shows. The day will also include theatrical performances retelling the legendary tale of St George and the dragon.

Organized by Derby Live, The Lost Boys theatre company, and Derby BID, the event promises to bring history to life through a lively mix of entertainment and cultural activities.

City Councillor Nadine Peatfield expressed her enthusiasm for the celebration: “Derby takes great pride in celebrating St George’s Day with a host of engaging activities that bring our patron saint’s story to life. We’re thrilled to see such a fantastic range of groups and performers coming together to make this event truly special.”

Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to join in the festivities and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of England.
